R-BGAN is a high-speed satellite IP modem operating at speeds of up to 144
kbps; this is more than twice the speed of GPRS terrestrial systems, and prior
to the advent of Inmarsat BGAN systems, it was the first time that such speeds
had been possible from a lightweight, portable satellite terminal. The system
is operational across Europe, Africa and Asia. It is also a cost-efficient option,
as it is "always on", meaning that you only pay for data sent and received,
not for the time connected.
